Cleverest Remark on DNC and Clinton

September 6, 2012
 By Elizabeth Scalia

Yesterday, the DNC had to pretend it had a 2/3 vote to assert that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and for the inclusion of the phrase, “God-given gifts” into their national platform, because three attempts to vote couldn’t bring it. Whether it was the “God” language or the “Jerusalem” language they resisted more is hard to say. But the the nays seem to have it it.

And then, of course,  the mob boo’ed, jeered and hissed.

Later, Bill Clinton came out and did what Bill Clinton does better than almost anyone.

This morning, appeared on my Facebook wall the cleverest remark about it all:

“So, after they denied God three times, the cock crowed; what next?”

Well, what comes next is an ending and a beginning, as we all know.

What? In 2008, the Democrats loved this biblical/messianic stuff. Some still do!

It’s a clever remark, and I admit I laughed — the DNC got all biblical and they didn’t even know it!

But don’t get too cocky. After all, Peter may have made three denials, but he still ended up with the keys.

On August 31, 2012 a long filament of solar material that had been hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona, erupted out into space at 4:36 p.m. EDT. The coronal mass ejection, or CME, traveled away from the sun at over 900 miles per second. This movie shows the ejection from a variety of viewpoints as captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO), and the joint ESA/NASA Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).

Liberals on Twitter curse Archbishop Dolan for pro-life prayer at DNC convention
Liberals on Twitter expressed their displeasure with a pro-life benediction given by New York Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan Thursday night at the DNC convention with a stream of profane tweets, Twitchy  reported.
Although several networks, including NBC, cut off coverage of the prayer, "liberals didn’t waste any time making clear their displeasure," the Twitchy staff said....

Malkin: Circus of the Vagina-gogues vs. Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan
Hide your children. This is what the progressive left’s idea of women’s empowerment looks like: For the past two weeks, radical feminists from the group Code Pink have paraded across the fruited plain in giant female reproductive organ costumes.
The goal is “respect” for women’s bodies and women’s abortion rights. It’s part of the coordinated campaign to fight the right’s purported “war on women.” The Vagina Puppets’ Democratic Party sympathizers, from professional birth control freeloader Sandra Fluke to first lady Michelle Obama, dog-whistled the same messages of “choice” and “freedom” from the convention stage...

A.S. Haley: A Pro-Life God Is Not Welcome at Democratic Convention
At the Convention they just completed, the Democrats had a very difficult time reconciling their ideals and beliefs with the Christian God. Amid all the hoopla about the last-minute fig leaves added to their official party platform, an even more telling story has gone largely unreported. Todd Starnes at Fox News published  this story on September 6 (H/T: Martial Artist):

The Democratic National Committee banned dozens of Charlotte churches from distributing gift baskets to delegates because the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform, according to local religious leaders.

“They told us our views on women’s rights are contrary to the Democratic party platform,” said David Benham, the lead organizer of the Charlotte714 religious movement.
He explained in his next paragraph about the "Charlotte714 movement":
Charlotte714 is a group of more than 100 churches across the region that mobilized to pray for the Democratic National Convention. More than 9,000 people gathered last Sunday for a time of worship and prayer in advance of the convention.
Benham said the name references an Old Testament passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – calling the nation to prayer.
More than 9,000 Christians? Gathering to pray for the Democratic National Convention? Yep, that's right...

Bill O'Reilly BLASTS Caroline Kennedy's Rebelious DNC Speech Against Catholic Church

Albert Mohler: The Great American Worldview Test—The 2012 Election
...The assumptions framing the abortion positions of the two parties include the belief that every human life is sacred and to be protected at every point of development contrasted with the belief that a human life takes on greater worth and right to live as the development continues, but is tentative at least until the moment of live birth. The belief that the baby is itself the most urgent moral unit is contrasted with the belief that the woman and her right to control her own reproductive destiny is paramount. Behind these beliefs stand convictions and assumptions about human dignity, the worth of human life, the responsibility of the society to every human life, the purpose and end of human reproduction, and nothing less than the meaning of both life and death.

We are not looking at minor matters of political difference. We are staring into the abyss of comprehensive moral conflict. Christian voters can escape neither the consequences of their vote, nor the fact that our most basic convictions will be revealed in the voting booth come November. Christians cannot face these questions without the knowledge that God is the Giver of life, who made every human life in his image. We cannot consider this election without the knowledge that our Creator has given us the covenant of marriage as the union of one man and one woman as the demonstration of his glory and the promise of human flourishing...

The quiet rebirth of Christianity
...While most of the growth in Islam occurs through natural increase, the addition of Muslim children to the faith, an accelerating percentage of Christianity's growth is happening in nations where the Gospel of Jesus Christ faces persecution or outright bans. The best example of this is China, where small official churches, heavily monitored by the Communist government, have perhaps 15 million members, compared to underground Christian groups, both Protestant and Catholic, with perhaps 85 million additional believers.

While Muslim groups can build mosques and openly seek converts in Europe and the United States, the same liberty is not granted to Christian missionaries working in most Muslim countries; despite this, there are millions of Christians within the Middle East and North Africa, in rapidly growing communities of Coptic, Catholic and Protestant believers.

In an irony of repression, Muslim youths in Iraq, Algeria, Egypt and other nations are turning to Christianity because it faces so much opposition from the state, their parents and Muslim clergy. Banning an idea -- in this case, Christianity -- does a great deal to make it more attractive to those at odds with their society...

New Evangelization and the Wesley Brothers
...So what did the Wesley brothers do in their setting of indifference and perceived divisions? Did they tone down their sacramental devotion to appeal to the “rational” sensibilities of the age? Or scrap the Book of Common Prayer’s disciplines of daily liturgical prayer as obsolete? Did they insist that a particular “right” way of worship would solve all problems? Did they ignore suffering and injustice in England and focus only on an otherworldly, eternal salvation? None of the above. Instead, Charles and John Wesley set out for the mines, meadows, prisons, and town squares of England with an urgent Gospel message, a message meant to be lived.
Charles and John Wesley recognized that for Christians to authentically join in an eternal liturgy of praise and thanksgiving, their participation must be situated in the context of the Christian life. Christians not interested in the Eucharist? Take to open air preaching to tell of the person of Jesus Christ. Followers not finding a connection between human experience and the Paschal mystery? Organize the masses into groups for study, prayer, and lay preaching. Not reaching urban workers who viewed the Church of England as staid and stuffy? Witness to God’s love by doing Christ’s works of mercy and making prophetic stands—with all of these leading towards and flowing from the sacramental life of the Church of England... image

The United States nears deal for $1 billion in Egyptian debt relief
A team of U.S. State Department economic officials is nearing an agreement on $1 billion in debt relief to Egypt, and plans for increased U.S. investments. The United States has traditionally given Egypt $1.3 billion a year in military assistance, as the country has remained a strong U.S. ally in the region, particularly in its commitment to a peace treaty signed with Israel in 1979. However, the aid package was delayed for nearly 16 months by political turmoil and the change of the administration after last year's revolution...

Milwaukee Archdiocese to close 103 parishes
The Milwaukee archdiocese will close or consolidate 103 of its 203 parishes through 2020.
Church officials pointed to three principal factors during the next decade:
•The number of priest retirements will exceed ordinations, resulting in a projected 40 percent reduction in the number of priests serving in parish ministry.
•The costs of operating parishes and funding ministries are escalating rapidly and parishes can gain economies of scale by collaborating with other parishes.
•The mission of the church can be carried out more effectively by combining efforts and sharing resources.

Democratic Platform “Opposes Any Effort” to Limit Abortions
Democrats at the 2012 Democratic National Convention are set to approve a platform today that is unambiguously pro-abortion and opposes any effort whatsoever to stop any abortions. The platform also calls on forcing Americans to pay for abortions at taxpayer expense.
The platform Democrats will approve rejects efforts to stop forcing taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business and supports the Obama HHS mandate that forces religious groups to pay for and refer women for abortion-causing drugs under Obamacare...

Democrats Shift Language on Israel, Remove ‘God-Given’ From Platform

Sep 4, 2012

CHARLOTTE — For Democrats, there is no God in 2012 — at least as far as the party’s platform is concerned.

Nor is there a Jerusalem.

Democrats removed those two words, and the passages surrounding them, from the 2012 party platform as it was released this week.

In Charlotte on Monday, the Democratic Committee released its 2012 party platform after the DNC Platform Committee approved it under the leadership of Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker. The Platform Drafting Committee, led by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, gathered feedback for an initial draft in Minneapolis over the summer.

Gone are three sentences identifying Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, now and forever. There is no mention of Jerusalem in the 2012 document, after the 2008 version included this mention:

Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths. the rest

Bp. Nazir-Ali: Human rights 'agenda' is new totalitarianism, bishop warns judges

Human rights are becoming a new form of totalitarianism, being used to drive Christians out of public life and even their jobs, European judges will be warned next week.
By John Bingham
01 Sep 2012

Laws originally designed to protect basic freedoms are instead being used to strip British society of its Christian foundations while upholding the rights of minorities, they will hear.

The warning, from a prominent Church of England bishop, comes as part of a landmark case on religious freedom in Britain to be heard at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg next week.

In a powerful submission to the judges, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, warns of a distorted “human rights agenda” which he likens to the atheist communist regimes in Eastern Europe which also suppressed Christianity by preventing public manifestations of faith.

Unless basic Christian values are upheld, human rights will become “another inhuman ideology”, like the totalitarian regimes of the past, suppressing individuals, he says. the rest

Death By Prescription Drugs
Our nation is in the midst of a public health emergency the likes of which we have not seen since the first decade of AIDS' spread across America. And much like the early years of the AIDS epidemic, the victims of the current crisis are both vilified and ignored, the families of the victims are shamed into silence, and the public at large doesn't know enough to protect itself.
I am speaking of drug overdose, which is now killing tens of thousands of Americans annually, while leaving many thousands more mentally and physically disabled for the rest of their lives. The vast majority of drug overdose deaths are the result of two types of highly addictive, and highly profitable, prescription drugs: opiates and benzodiazapenes. In 2010, one of the more than 25, 000 Americans who died as the result of drug overdose was someone I adored with all my heart: my 18-year-old firstborn, my son Henry...

The Terrifying New Normal
...I’ve witnessed two of the most radical developments in my lifetime the last four years — changes far greater than those brought on by the massive new increases in the national debt, the soaring gas costs, the radical decrease in average family income, the insolvent Medicare and Social Security trajectories, or the flat housing market.

One is the fact of less than 1% interest rates on most savings (well below the rate of inflation), and the other is an epidemic of 20-something unemployment. All that is the new normal. . . .

These new realities fall heavily on the young male. Traditionally, he was in charge of taking charge — working two jobs to acquire enough to seed a marriage and family or buy a house, striving to be the protector of the household, and accruing experience in his late twenties that would translate into needed promotions in his thirties that would later on pay for braces, kids’ camp, and college tuitions.

No more. We have become emasculated Italians . . . The new model for the next generation is to cobble part-time work together, intern, occasionally draw on unemployment, send out resumes hourly, and hope for something to turn up (preferably in government, state or federal). We all witness the reality behind these statistics firsthand. When we travel we see more and more older people at work, often well into their 70s. I know 50 or so young offspring of friends, relatives, and associates who are desperately trying to find work...

Church: Is Bigger Really Better? The Statistics actually Say “No”!
...There are millions of people in smaller congregations across the country who live with a feeling that they are failures because their church isn’t as big as the megaplex congregation down the street. This is sad and should not be the case.
A global survey conducted by Christian Schwartz found that smaller churches consistently scored higher than large churches in seven out of eight qualitative characteristics of a healthy church. A more recent study of churches in America, conducted by Ed Stetzer and Life Way Ministries, revealed that churches of two hundred or less are four times more likely to plant a daughter church than churches of one thousand or more. The research seems to even indicate that the pattern continues—the smaller the size of the church the more fertile they are in planting churches...

The Moral Decline in the Words We Use
...Overall, in the second study, there was a statistically significant decline in 74 percent of the words they studied, including honesty, patience, honor, truthfulness, kindness, sincerity, courage, generosity, mercy, wisdom, humility, faithfulness, charity, humbleness, bravery, thoughtfulness, grace, helpfulness, courtesy, love, perseverance, modesty, politeness, fidelity, justice, gratitude, diligence, thankfulness, gentleness, sacrifice, benevolence, fortitude, purity, temperance, faith, hospitality, and appreciation. A few words showed increased use: compassion, integrity, fairness, tolerance, selflessness, discipline, dependability, reliability.

Analyzing these words as used in books is a way to highlight a culture's consciousness, they told The Atlantic Wire: "The words in a book reflect what is salient in the minds of a culture’s members, and simultaneously make these words even more salient. It’s a feedback cycle whereby people make cultural products and the cultural products make people," they wrote by email. This doesn't mean we're in an immoral spiral, yet: "It would be a stretch from data to say that our findings reflect an actual moral decline in the U.S.—that people are less moral now. But we believe that even if not outright moral decline, a moral confusion would be an unsurprising consequence of this downward trend in the cultural salience of morality concepts."...

Uganda drops Anglican Mission in America

September 2, 2012
By George Conger

The Church of the Province of Uganda has withdrawn its ecclesial sponsorship for the Anglican Mission in America (AMiA).

Formed in 2000 as an American arm of the Church of the Province of Rwanda (PEAR) the AMiA under its leader Bishop Chuck Murphy split from PEAR last year. While many of the AMiA’s congregations and two of its bishops have transferred to the jurisdiction of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), some have remained loyal to Bishop Murphy – joining him in temporary oversight from the Anglican Church of the Congo.

Earlier this month the remaining AMiA clergy received a letter from its headquarters in Pawleys Island, South Carolina asking that they choose one of two new canonical jurisdictions. In July Bishop Murphy, accompanied by his assistant the Rev. Canon Kevin Donlon, travelled to Africa to arrange alternative provincial oversight following the end of the Congo haven.

Last week the AMiA leader wrote that clergy may choose to affiliate with the Diocese of Bunyoro-Kitara of the Church of the Province of Uganda under Bishop Nathan Kyamanywa, or the Diocese of Dunkwa-on-Offin of the Church of the Province of West Africa in Ghana under Bishop Edmund Dawson Ahmoah. Clergy were allowed to choose which jurisdiction they wanted to enter, or the office in Pawleys Island would assign a jurisdiction. Clergy were asked to respond by 31 August. the rest
