Katrina’s Warning
Security from Nature and Terror

Hurricane Katrina was a wake-up call to this country. As I mentioned last week, it wakes us up to the fact that our God is sovereign and we should be constantly in a state of repentance, humbly seeking God’s favor.

The catastrophe also has revealed how vulnerable America is by knocking out, as it did, at least for a time, thirty percent of our refinery capacity. The result: gasoline in short supply across the country, and gas prices soaring. People complained all across America instead of being grateful that they are alive.

So, one lesson I draw from Katrina is that we had better win the war on terror and resolve to prevent another September 11. Katrina exposed how easy it would be to take a city out. A terrorist could set off a dirty bomb in a strategically located city and bring America to its knees. And as we saw with Katrina, when governing restraints are taken away, rioting follows. All a terrorist would have to do is interrupt the power supply of this country or shut down the Internet, and Katrina and its aftermath would look like child’s play by comparison.
