Anglican chief to meet pope
Meeting marks landmark 1966 visit


(ANSA) - Vatican City, November 2 - Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams will meet with Pope Benedict XVI later this month to boost ties strained by the Anglican church's position on women and gay priests .

The meeting will take place on November 23 to mark the 40th anniversary of a landmark visit to Rome by then Anglican chief Michael Ramsay, the Vatican said Thursday .

"My visit to the Vatican represents an opportunity to pursue the rich tradition of exchange between Canterbury and Rome, to reflect on the steps taken in these last 40 years and the future of our relations," said Williams, head of the world's 80 million Anglicans .
