Dear Clergy and People of Central New York:

Many of you have already seen the documents reflecting the thinking of the recent House of Bishops meeting. If not, they are available on line at http://ecusa.anglican.org/79901_84230_ENG_HTM.htm and I commend them to you. There is a scheduled clergy meeting on April 18th in order to have a conversation about the content of the Bishops meeting, but I thought that a few preliminary thoughts would be in order.

First let me say that there was at this meeting a spirit of openness, self-differentiation and truth-telling, the depth of which I have not seen among us for a while. This was true across theological and ideological lines and named by many. Our meeting continues to be grounded in worship, prayer and Bible study for which I am grateful. We did spend a fair amount of time discussing our thoughts and responses to the primates’ Communiqué, but we also spent a significant amount of time on many mission subjects and issues. For a substantive list of our activities please refer to A Message to God’s People, our letter to the people of the Episcopal Church (found at http://ecusa.anglican.org/79901_84233_ENG_HTM.htm). I encourage you to share that letter and the above referenced documents with your congregations.
