Most Episcopalians just don’t care

The US Church’s obsesssion with gay rights has made it irrelevant, says Harriet Baber
I HAD a pastoral letter from our Bishop in the summer, folded into the diocesan newspaper.

After some observations about the feast of the Transfiguration, and the good time he and some other bishops had had at a conference in Spain, he added, almost as an afterthought, that he was suing three parishes, which had broken with the Episcopal Church over church property.

I doubt that many people read the Bishop’s letter — or, if they started reading, got to the news of the proposed litigation, or, if they read about the impending lawsuits, cared. The dispute about the ordination of openly gay bishops and blessing of same-sex unions had no import for their lives or their congregations.
