An Internet bookstore is taking a stand against leading online book retailers by offering a family-friendly atmosphere.
The site is called Abunga.com; the name means "tree of life" in certain Australian dialects. The website was formed last year by Tennessee businessman Lee Martin, who wanted to provide a safe alternative to online bookstores that peddle pornography.
Abunga community members can block items they find offensive from their personal profiles. Those profiles are monitored by site administrators, who will eliminate a book if a large group of people block the selection from their profiles. Also, Abunga employees remove inappropriate titles as they find them.
"So, in essence, if there's a book that [the customers] don't want to see on their home account, that book will be pulled off. We tally those up, and periodically we go through the tallies of those books and we will actually remove books from our site based on those that have been blocked by our users," Martin explains. the rest
