Catholic and Muslim scholars met May 27-28, 2008 in Rancho Palos Verdes CA as part of a dialogue that has been ongoing since March 2000 and undertaken by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Islamic Shura Council of California, the Islamic Society of Orange County, and the Islamic Education Center of Orange County. The discussion centered on the story of the Patriarch Abraham as understood by these distinct traditions.
Keynote messages by Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi and Imam Sayed Mostafa Qazwini emphasized the importance of the April 2008 visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States as a new phase in Muslim-Christian relations. Rev. Francis Tiso of the USCCB Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs spoke of the Biblical narratives about Abraham in Genesis. the rest
