Sydney's Anglican church faces new push for women priests

A MOVE to allow female bishops in England's Anglican Church has led to renewed calls for women to be ordained as priests and bishops in Sydney.

The Church of England voted on Monday to allow female bishops, despite fears it would prompt a major split after more than 1300 clergy threatened to leave if it was passed.

While there are female bishops in Perth and Melbourne and female deacons are permitted in the Harbour City, Sydney Archbishop Peter Jensen has long been an outspoken opponent of female priests and bishops. the rest
