Caroline Kennedy drops out as contender for Senate

Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of a Democratic dynasty who was widely viewed as the front-runner for an open U.S. Senate seat in New York, abruptly took herself out of contention, according to reports published Wednesday night.

Kennedy informed New York Gov. David Paterson that she was withdrawing her name from consideration for the position, which came open when Hillary Rodham Clinton stepped down to become secretary of State in the Obama administration. the rest
