Why a “Sexual Orientation” and “Gender Identity” “Hate Crimes” Law Is Bad for You

Part 1: Promoting hatred of people opposed to homosexual practice and transgenderism
by Robert A. J. Gagnon, Ph.D.
May 28, 2009

The so-called “Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act” (H.R. 1913), passed by the U.S. House of Representatives along party lines on Apr. 29 and introduced into the U.S. Senate shortly thereafter by Ted Kennedy (S. 909), is improperly named. The bill is really a hate-promotion bill as regards the inclusion of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” among the groupings slated to receive special protection.

Supporters of this bill who rightly believe homosexual practice to be unnatural and sinful have been duped into thinking that this bill is primarily about protecting homosexual and transgendered persons from violence. They hear the rubric “hate crimes” and think: Who can be for violence toward homosexual and transgendered persons? the rest

Hi, sorry, but I think that when a person assaults a homosexual with the purpose of sending the victim a message to 'stay afraid'--when the purpose is to socially engineer by fear and violence--then we have an act of domestic terrorism. There should be zero tolerance for this, and offenders need to be made an example of.

If I were a few years younger, I would call for the waterboarding of convicted gay-bashers. After all, nine "good Christians" out of ten say it ain't torture...just an "enhancement."

However, as I'm older, wiser, and a better Christian, I will only say that you need to stop hiding behind thugs to do your social engineering for you. Enhanced hate crime penalties are necessary.

Domestic terror is not the way to express disagreement, or (as usually the case) a different orientation. (Can you stop voting your esthetics?)

Now, please, get that wide-eyed boy-caught-at-the-cookie-jar look off your face and come on board with true American, and true Christian, values.

Please let me clarify something I said in the last post. Paragraph 4 may not have been clear.

I meant that I think that most anti-gay agitation is simply a warped way of saying "I personally ain't queer." It's not a principled or rational response at all; just the angry assertion of a personal preference.

Of course, there are other forms of hate crime that attack other kinds of human difference.

Please, though, in the present matter, stop voting with your loins. Stop thinking with your loins. And stop turning a blind eye to the ugly, satanic hate that roams the world seeking whom it may devour.

You may be its intended meal!

I quote from the first comment, with one minor replacement: "Hi, sorry, but I think that when a person assaults a California resident who voted for Proposition 8, with the purpose of sending the victim a message to 'stay afraid'--when the purpose is to socially engineer by fear and violence--then we have an act of domestic terrorism. There should be zero tolerance for this, and offenders need to be made an example of."
And I rest my case.
