Blue Dogs Oppose Medicare-like Public Plan Option

WASHINGTON, June 5 -- The fiscally conservative House Democrats who call themselves the Blue Dogs have released a paper opposing the Medicare-like public healthcare plan that most of their party colleagues embrace as as a crucial piece of healthcare reform.
The 51-member group said that while it supports healthcare reform, it would support a government-run insurance option only if it set reimbursement rates in the same manner as private plans -- through negotiations with providers.
