Pastor says purpose drives people to offer hope amid despair

Advocate staff writer In his bestseller, "The Purpose Driven Life," the Rev. Rick Warren advises that "God never wastes a hurt."
Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., adapted that message Tuesday afternoon for a hundred-plus church leaders gathered at Florida Boulevard Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
"God loves to bring good out of bad," Warren reminded them. "He loves to bring resurrections from crucifixions."
Out of the suffering Louisiana is experiencing now comes an opportunity for churches here to set an example for reaching out to people and caring for them the way Jesus would, Warren said.
