Police Harass Christians in Florida

City police threatened a man with arrest for legally collecting signatures to put a marriage amendment on the state ballot.

John Stemberger of the Florida Family Policy Council was collecting signatures at a booth leased from Promise Keepers during their event when Sunrise, Florida police Sergeant Stephen Allen ordered the petitions removed.

“And I asked him what the legal basis for that was, and unbelievably he begins to tell me that Jesus said nothing about homosexuality in the New Testament, that we were totally out of line, that this is a waste of our time.”

When Stemberger told Allen he was a constitutional lawyer, the office responded, “You are not a lawyer.” When Stemberg produced a business card Allen called him an “ambulance chaser.” The bizarre interchange continued and turned to ridicule.
