Archbishop of Canterbury says debt is crippling the young

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, struck out at Britain’s credit crisis today and said that debt was crippling young people and eroding family life.

Dr Williams attacked loan sharks who prey on the vulnerable. He also urged the Government to do something about the excessive salaries enjoyed by workers in the City.

The Archbishop, who leads a Church of England campaign to help people to manage their money, said that debt was leading to “the erosion of family life and the erosion of self-confidence among the poorest people”. the rest
