Forward in Faith reacts to attack on Bishop Iker and the Anglican Communion

Forward in Faith is appalled by TEC Primate Jefferts Schori’s continued attack upon Bishop Jack L Iker, a bishop of the Province of the Southern Cone. The actions of Jefferts Schori are an embarrassment to Christians and all of Anglicanism. Her actions clearly demonstrate her disregard for other provinces of the Anglican Communion and the canons of her own denomination. Clearly her statements misrepresent the facts. Bishop Iker has not renounced his orders, nor has he abandoned the Communion.

Please do not put words into my mouth. Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori is not an embarrasment to me. And secondly, the renunciation that she is referring to is the fact that Iker did indeed LEAVE the Episcopal Church. He is no longer an Episcopalian. He and his cronies made that quite clear long before his departure from the denomination. It is appauling that they are still using "The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth" as a cover. Schori has not "attacked" Iker. If anyone has done the attacking, it is Iker himself - he has attacked women, gays, and anyone who is progressive in thought in the Episcopal Church. Perhaps the schism is blessing to those of us who look forward to building a more progressive future here in Fort Worth.
Of course Bishop Jack Iker left The Episcopal Church(TEC). But TEC does not have an exclusive right to use the word “Episcopal,” and the Fort Worth diocese need not change its name after leaving TEC just to keep Zenwood and Bishop Schori happy.
Like any priest or bishop who transfers to overseas jurisdictions, it should not be declared that they have renounced their ordained ministry and are “deprived of the right to exercise the gifts and spiritual authority as a Minister of God’s Word and Sacraments conferred on him in Ordinations,” as her December 5th statement says. Read Ikers’ statement; he said nothing renouncing his ordained ministry. She is just making that up because it servers her agenda. Had a bishop moved to Argentina in the Southern Cone and ministered there, would she have done that? Of course not! It is spiritually and intellectually dishonest for her to issue such a statement. Shori is just bellyaching about the fact that Bishop Iker is part of a nascent Anglican province forming in North America which just might displace hers, or at very least, compete with hers for Anglican loyalties and parishioners.
