Archbishop of Canterbury Resigns After Child Sex Abuse Report: 'Shame' Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury and spiritual head of the Anglican Communion, has stepped down following an investigation that concluded he failed to report serial physical and sexual abuse by a volunteer at Christian summer camps to authorities promptly upon learning of it.

   Welby expressed a "profound sense of shame" over "the historic safeguarding failures of the Church of England."

  The pressure on Welby had intensified in recent weeks, with the findings of the Makin Review released on Thursday sparking widespread anger over accountability within the Church's leadership. Calls for his resignation grew among members of the General Synod, the Church of England's national governing body, as some clergy launched a petition asserting that Welby had "lost the confidence of his clergy." Archbishop of Canterbury Has Resigned: Long Overdue Three members of the Church of England's General Synod started a petition -- backed by a number of high-profile priests -- calling on Welby to resign after a report lambasted the church for failing to stop John Smyth, a Christian barrister referred to as the "most prolific serial abuser" in its history. It found that he "brutally" beat 130 boys over 40 years.

   The petition, had reached over 13,000 signatures at the time of his announcement on Tuesday.

The appointment also surely satisfies the Fox-watching and conservative talk radio demographic among Americans.

   Regardless, Huckabee is set to take over the embassy in Jerusalem which is at the heart of several warring fronts. Netanyahu officials on Tuesday have gone so far as to say now is not the time for ceasefire in Lebanon, until the military's goals are achieved. Huckabee is likely to agree.

When Donald Trump raised this issue, The New York Times accused him of spreading disinformation. According to The Times, Trump “falsely accused” the Biden administration of “neglecting areas that had voted for Republicans.”

   Er, except that it was true. And The New York Times, as of this writing, had not corrected its false reporting, which itself constitutes disinformation.

This avoids a formal announcement and having to answer silly, loaded questions at press conferences asked by DNC water carriers who pose as reporters.
