U.S. enters 2024 with its smallest military in over 80 years  That is the lowest total since before the U.S. entered the Second World War in 1941 and officials said there should be a 'national call to service'.

   Recent recruitment targets were missed in the Army, Navy and Air Force, although the Marine Corps and the newly established Space Force reached their goals.

   This week Ashish Vazirani, the Pentagon’s acting undersecretary for personnel and readiness, told the House Armed Services Committee that the individual services missed their recruitment goals in 2023 by a combined 41,000 personnel.

This Means Cyber War: Chinese Hackers Target Critical U.S. Infrastructure   Then, last week, DailyMail.com reported that Chinese hackers affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army have gained access to essential infrastructure sites in the U.S., including a water utility in Hawaii, a major port, and at least one oil and gas pipeline. The hackers’ access to the water utility in Hawaii is probably of the utmost concern since the U.S. Pacific fleet resides near the island of Oahu. Chinese hackers had been “sitting on a stockpile of strategic vulnerabilities” without being detected for almost a year.

We Are Facing a Demographic Collapse of Epic Proportions   Birth rates have plummeted to record lows all over the industrialized world, and this has very serious implications for our future.  If something is not done to reverse this, native populations will fall very rapidly in wealthy countries during the years ahead, and there won’t be nearly enough young workers to support the entitlement programs that the elderly are counting on.

Meanwhile, nations where birth rates are still above replacement level (such as in the Islamic world) will become more powerful and will play a more dominant role in world affairs.  Despite all of our advanced technology, population numbers still matter, and we really are facing a demographic collapse of epic proportions.

‘Liberty and Justice For All’ – A Tattered Cliche? 

Throughout history, the tyrannical abuse of governmental power has been a fearsome thing to behold. Wise men instituted laws in an effort to tame that abuse. The Constitution of the United States, for example, was framed in large part as a prophylactic against the coercive power of the state. The Framers witnessed the “long train of abuses and usurpations” perpetrated by the British crown and resolved to respond. The Constitution dealt with many other things, to be sure, but concern about tyrannical abuse of power by the government and its minions is patent from the opening paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence straight through the Constitution and its Amendments. The idea was that we Americans would live in a polity governed by “laws, not men.” That is to say, laws would be legitimately formulated, clearly defined, and administered impartially, so far as was humanly possible. How are we doing on that score?

Not so well.

Torturing, raping, and killing Israelis elevates them from men ashamed of their status in life into respected ruthless warriors recognized and celebrated by other terrorist groups and antisemitic extremists around the world.

Hamas shame is not the result of alleged Israeli oppression. It is the direct result of information operation strategies that portray Palestinians as helpless victims against Israeli aggression. You can only be shamed in the eyes of others; without disinformation, there is no dishonor. The problem is not that Palestinians have no shame, it is that they have too much, and it is fabricated.
