Study: 59% of non-citizen migrants use welfare: More on 'Fiducia Supplicans'...more
Study: 59% of non-citizen migrants use welfare... What that adds up to is a huge welfare cost to U.S. taxpayers, and a big benefit bonanza to foreign nationals who've never paid a penny into the system...Migrants are America's most prodigious consumers of government welfare programs.

Gavin Ashendon: Who would choose to be a Catholic at a time like this? Given how dire and unreconcilable the theological and philosophical conflict is at the moment, it is difficult to know what the political implications of this move are.
It may be that anxieties about the Pope Francis’ health drove his acolytes and appointees to decide that this was the most propitious moment to launch the coming conflict in the Church; one that will be resolved only through the appointment of a new pope on Francis’ death.
If Francis the 2nd is appointed, the Catholic Church becomes the largest liberal protestant denomination in the world. If Benedict the 17th is appointed, the Catholic Church may be saved.
5 things the Catholic Church's document on same-sex blessings does (and doesn't) say In an unprecedented opening by the Catholic Church toward LGBTQ people, the Vatican's Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith approved the blessing of same-sex couples on Monday in a document titled "Fiducia Supplicans," or "Requesting Trust."
Pope Francis approved the document, formally called a declaration — a term that signals that its contents carry doctrinal importance and were written in consultation with experts and theologians. But the document, like many of Francis' pronouncements on topics where doctrine clashes with culture war issues, hedges its seemingly progressive leap forward with assurances that nothing has really changed.
The most fundamental problem with this document and the theology underlying it is its radical reconstruction of what is meant by “God’s love.” It applies modern notions of “love,” which is reduced to emotional feelings and meaningless affirmations, to the Almighty God. God’s love is not the affirmation of sin; it is the defeat of sin. We see God’s love most fully on the Cross, which is the path of suffering and denial of self. Yet when people choose to be in irregular or same-sex relationships, they are in fact choosing a path of self over the denial of self. To bless that disordered path is to pretend to give God’s blessing on a path away from Him. This the Church has never done, and the Church cannot do, no matter what Cardinal Fernández or even Pope Francis might say.

DC Transit Rejects Ad Banners Featuring George Washington Kneeling in Prayer “And all this after they told WallBuilders that they couldn’t advertise on their bus because George Washington was apparently an issue ad on which there are varying public opinions,” he said. “That’s awful strange. And it leads one to wonder is the Washington area a metropolitan area transit authority, going to change their name to disassociate with the Founding Father himself?” Image

At some point, one has to wonder whether, de facto, Islam is becoming a state religion. Not so much established by the state but through the suppression of Christianity and the implicit promotion of Islam.
I suspect that the reason is not so much an institutional embrace of Islam but for the pusillanimous reason that Christians will submit to state authority, even illegitimate state authority, while the powers that be fear that Muslims will riot even if they are being prosecuted for breaking the law.

Covid Redux...The rise of public masking and the persistence of Covid fanatics on social media is disconcerting From my conversations with others, Covid is not on most people’s minds, unless they are extremely neurotic. People have formed their own, mostly reasonable and moderate conclusions based on personal experience and the experience of people in their circle. The vast majority of people got an illness that they recovered from and either credit the vaccine or good luck with their recovery. They know, either way, it is not a reason to freak out.
But the rise of public masking and the persistence of Covid fanatics on social media is disconcerting. At least this time, the public is less gullible and trusting. If the authorities try to reimpose costly and draconian interventions to address the modest risks of Covid, the skeptics, vaccine regrettors, freedom lovers, and real Americans will go absolutely ape. We won’t be fooled again.
