Members of mainline denominations as a percentage of the US population have dropped to the single digits. That’s bad news for the poor and vulnerable.
Churchgoing is good for the poor and vulnerable in a variety of ways: it gives people moral guidance on how to live their lives. It gives them opportunities to directly serve others as a community. It results in tithes that are then spent on a wide variety of charitable works. These things are not salvation, and it is certainly possible for someone to be warming a pew for 50 years without a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. But any person is far more likely to find Jesus while nodding off in a pew than watching Netflix in bed.

Faith and the City...Even in an age of rationalist skepticism, religion remains indispensable to urban life Throughout the long history of cities, religion has played a central, even dominant, role, providing education, charity, and moral ballast in places where social chaos often flourishes. From the days of the earliest Mesopotamian cities to the modern metropolis, religion has served as a source of inspiration—as evidenced by structures from Saint Peter’s to Saint Patrick’s—and a consolation for populations that otherwise would be left to the vicissitudes of the mean streets or the cold mercies of the state. Even in an age of rationalist skepticism, religion remains indispensable to city life.

Heavenly Father, as our nation pauses today to remember those in the military who have given their lives for freedoms we enjoy, we pray you would have us all look to you for strength, comfort and guidance. Be with all who serve in our Armed Forces. Bless them and their families. Grant your loving protection. Let peace prevail among all the nations, O God. Especially let your mercy rest upon our land, even as we acknowledge with thanksgiving your past goodness on this country. If it is your will, preserve the lives of the men and women in uniform as they defend our citizenry. Most of all, we pray that you would turn the hearts of all – military and civilian – to your holy Word where we find the true peace for our sinful souls that surpasses all understanding. BREAKING: Pro-life rescuer Heather Idoni sentenced to 24 months, denied home detention despite stroke   Pro-life advocate and mother of 15 Heather Idoni was sentenced by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to 24 months in prison for blocking access to a late-term abortion center in the nation’s capital. Idoni, who recently suffered a stroke while incarcerated, was also denied home confinement despite ongoing health issues.

Last fall, Idoni, 59, was placed in prolonged solitary confinement for 22 days and deprived of sleep with the lights in her cell kept on continually. While awaiting sentencing, she suffered a stroke three weeks ago and had to be rushed to a hospital. Idoni previously disclosed to LifeSiteNews investigative journalist Louis Knuffke that she is a victim of gross medical neglect at the D.C. jail where she is incarcerated, which failed to administer essential medication for her heart while falsifying her medical record. 

On Wednesday, one day after her hearing was originally scheduled for, Idoni was sentenced to 24 months in prison. She has already served nine months, giving her 15 left to serve. Further, she was refused the option of serving her sentence via home detention, which she requested due to health issues she has endured throughout her prosecution.

Following Tuesday’s sentencing, Steve Crampton, who represented Handy and is a senior counsel at the Thomas Moore Society, told Fox News, “This is not the America I know. Judge Kollar-Kotelly cited the Thirteenth Amendment—yes, the ban on slavery—as one provision that “has received substantial attention among scholars” as a source of a right to abortion.

Harrison Butker Boots This One Out of the Stadium; The Nones Have Hit a Ceiling...more

Finally, the indignation and fury sparked by Butker lay bare a phenomenon long apparent in our culture, which is that American secularism has now attained the status of a religious cult. Contrary to the First Amendment, the state has established this brand of secularism as its religion. Those attempting to cancel Butker wholeheartedly buy into the creed of this church—the righteousness of abortion and transgenderism, the superiority of professional women to mothers and homemakers, the emasculation of the male because otherwise he is a toxic oppressor, and the wisdom of the federal government as superior to individual thinking. The latest heretic to be tried and found guilty is Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker who gave an unorthodox graduation commencement address last week. Being a Catholic speaking at a Catholic institution, you would expect Butker to, I don’t know, voice Catholic beliefs. What exactly did Butker say that so riled up the tolerant and inclusive public? First, he had the nerve to tell women that marriage and children are more fulfilling than career accomplishments. Second, he critiqued Pride Month for celebrating sin. Third, he negatively assessed DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives. That’s right. In one speech, Harrison Butker managed to violate all five tenets of the Secular Creed.

The Nones Have Hit a Ceiling...After Decades of Non-Stop Increases, Non-Religious Americans Have Plateaued  The rise of the nones may be largely over now. At least it won’t be increasing in the same way that it did in the prior thirty years.
Of course, the question is why? I don’t know if I have a bulletproof answer. I think the easiest explanation is that a lot of marginally attached people switched to “no religion” on surveys over the last decade or two. Eventually, there weren’t that many marginally attached folks anymore. All you had left were they very committed religious people who likely won’t become nones for any reason. The loose top soil has been scooped off and hauled away, leaving nothing but hard bedrock underneath.

Just as a reminder, during the Trump administration, Iran was practically bankrupt with less than $10 billion of cash reserves. They are obviously able to finance Islamic jihadists to link up with the transnational narco-criminal terrorist organizations, cartels, to gain illegal entry into America.

Iran can only be rejoicing at the moral and educational collapse they have helped create on American university campuses, which are grooming America's future teachers, judges and political leaders. The Power of Prayer...

Prayer is a powerful means of grace that God has provided to us. He has good things to give us that we do not have because we have not asked. Some may argue, but God knows what we need even if we do not ask. That is true, but refusing to pray is disobedience, and there are rewards to obedience in prayer that we will not experience any other way. For one, intimacy with our Father will always be lacking in our Christian life if we neglect prayer, and the peace that passes all understanding that flows from it will continue to elude us.

There is power in prayer; it changes things. Ask, seek, and knock, and you will receive. Do you believe this? I am not asking if you mentally agree with this truth. I am asking if your life gives evidence that you believe it to be true. Are you living the way someone who believes Jesus’s teaching on prayer would live?
